President Marilyn Pattison、President Patrick Kerr、

I am delighted to attend the opening ceremony of the 1st Asia-Pacific Occupational Therapy Symposium with all the tenured health care professionals and experts from around the world. On behalf of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all the guests present today.

First, I would like to thank Taiwan Occupational Therapy Association for enthusiastically pursuing to host the first Asia-Pacific Occupational Therapy Symposium in Taiwan. It is an important event in Taiwan and also the field of Occupational therapy. In the age of rapid aging society, the health care issues of the elderlies are becoming a major topic of concern for countries around the world. Therefore, in response to an aging society, Taiwan is in the process of promoting the ten-year plan for Long-term care 2.0 that provides integrated and diversified long-term care services with need assessments. In the future, we hope that our occupational therapist would continue to do magic with their expertise for the disabled by providing “life function reconstruction” and “lifestyle recreation” to achieve disease prevention, rehabilitation, and build adaptation and productivity. Then, can we improve the quality of life for the disabled and prevent their degeneration in physiological, psychological, and social function.

Special thanks to the organizers for arranging a diverse and meaningful program for experts around the world to share their experience in course design, development and evaluation of occupational therapy. I believe through the experience sharing and exchanges during this symposium, we will inspire further development of clinical training and quality in Taiwan, and ultimately improve our techniques in occupational therapy and academic status in the world.

Finally, I hope our guests afar would take this opportunity to experience the beautiful scenery and diverse cultures in Taiwan. I wish the symposium a fruitful success, and wish you all the best of health. Thank you!
